Why Town Hall Elopements and Micro Weddings Are Becoming More Popular
Let’s face it. Times are changing. If the idea of flying your entire family to a sandy beach abroad or a three day celebration at a stately home sends you (and your bank account) into a cold sweat, then why not look at a wedding which is no less ‘you’, without an extortionate price tag.
The vibe doesn’t have to be any less iconic, whether you are looking at a local venue surrounded by history and charm such as Colchester Town Hall, or a chic, vogue-cover-worthy backdrop as the beautifully decorated steps of Chelsea Old Town Hall.
Let’s take a look at why this might be your dream day:
1. A More Intimate Wedding
Want to just focus on each other, your vows, your relationship and spending time with the people closest to you instead of focusing on the sometimes overwhelming logistics of a larger wedding? Then an intimate ceremony may be for you. You can break tradition and arrive together, have your interview together and even walk down the aisle together (this happened in 2025 and I LOVED IT). You can see the faces of all of the people who mean to the most to you and really feel the emotion instead of getting lost in a sea of smiles.
2. Less Stress, More Freedom
Town hall weddings simplify planning. No complicated timelines. No pressure. Just a relaxed, joyful experience. The hardest thing to think about? Parking and travel.
3. Beautiful Locations Without the Big Price Tag
There are some genuinely stunning Town Halls you can look at. Colchester Town Hall is a local one that I have regularly shot at and provides stunning interiors (who doesn’t want to live out a Jack and Rose staircase (NOT DOOR) moment) and historic exteriors that rival high-end venues—at a far more accessible cost. But if you wanted to look at classic, iconic venues, think Old Marylebone, Chelsea Old Town Hall, Hackney Town Hall, and Islington Town Hall. Plus, once the ceremony is finished and pictures taken on the steps, there is a world of beautiful locations local to each Town Hall that we can mosey off to and get some great shots.
4. A Chance to Create a Day That Truly Reflects You
Want to wear a ball gown or prefer to opt for suits, a mini dress or a jumpsuit? Do it. The setting allows for you to look and feel as much like yourselves as possible. Your pictures should reflect that, whether you are going traditional or a modern or alternative twist on a wedding.
After the legal ceremony, the day can unfold however you want:
A celebratory lunch, a walk through town, a cosy dinner, or even a bigger party later. And with my intimate package, I can be there for those moments too.
My biggest tip? The aisle’s are short, so really take your time with your walk!
